Hey folks,

When I try to connect to a network it tells me that I can only make these changes as a super user. I tried using my own password but this doesn't seem to work. How do I bypass this?

Sorry for the stupid question,
John

For all those who are experiencing problems with ubuntu 9.10 regarding their wifi cards not being detected. There is one solution which i would recommend you people to try once.
First insert your live cd into cd-rom.
Open the synaptic package manager.
Click Add the cd-rom. (It would be somewhere in the classical menu).
Once the cd has been added.
Click on the search button.
Type broadcom.
you will get some results.
Some application regarding to your wifi device drivers.
Install those by tick marking them.
Click apply button.
Your wifi cards should be detected.
Restart the system and enjoy seamless connectivity.
Please reply.

Hi Fred,
I am having a Compaq Presario CQ45 laptop. I have a internet connection at my home with a wifi router Netgear WGR614. When I connect to the wifi router using a cable it goes online. But it doesnot detects my wifi network. I have checked clicking on the network manager icon in task bar but it didn't help. It shows VPN Connections and asks to configure connection. I am not aware that much about this. please let me know if you can tell me any work around. Thanks in advance.

Same problem as Vikash; I've installed Ubuntu 9.10 on a Dell Latitude 610 that is also running Windows XP Pro,, via a wubi install of the Ubuntu. Windows is running fine on the wifi,, detects several available, and connects with no prob. Ubuntu doesn't detect squat,, the wifi light on the laptop never illuminates,, and, like Fred,, I never get the wireless icons on Ubuntu,, so no further "install" can occur. Hard to believe that the system that by all rights should be dismantling the Windows house of cards can't get by something as basis in the 21st century as wifi. Frustrated ???,,, you bet !!!
